CHAMPIONSHIP REVERSAL
International Falls began a string of three consecutive state championships with getting a measure of revenge on St. Paul Johnson in a title-game rematch. Interestingly, the Broncos won the crown through the back door, the second consecutive year of that feat. After losing to Duluth East in the Region 7 final, International Falls got back at the Greyhounds with a 2-1 victory in the quarterfinals. A 3-2 victory over Richfield followed in the semifinals before racing to a 7-3 victory over St. Paul Johnson in the championship game.
SLAP SHOTS
- This was the second season that the all-tournament team had at least one representative from all eight teams.
- Minneapolis Patrick Henry made the last of the schools three state tournament trips.
- Fledging rink-side play-by-play voice - Lou Nanne called his 1st Tourney - that began a mark of 60 years as 'the voice of The Tourney' that ended in 2024 after six decades.
