1928:  Former NHL center Jackie Gordon born in Winnipeg, Man. Gordon played in the NHL 1948-49 through 1950-51 with the New York Rangers.  He later worked as a coach and general manager with the Minnesota North Stars and Vancouver Canucks.

1951:  Former NHL coach Andy Murray born in Gladstone, Man.  Murray coached in the league with Los Angeles, St. Louis, Philadelphia, the Minnesota North Stars, Dallas and Winnipeg, starting in 1988-89.

1973:  Minnesota goaltender Cesare Maniago recorded his 24th career shutout to lead the North Stars to a 3-0 win over the Atlanta Flames at the Met Center.

1982:  Bobby Smith had a goal and two assists to become the first 100 point scorer in Minnesota North Stars history and the Stars picked up the 400th victory in franchise history, 6-4 over the visiting Detroit Red Wings.  It was Smith's only 100 point season.

1983:  Reed Larson scored a goal and added two assists as the Red Wings won 5-3 over the Quebec Nordiques in Detroit.

1985:  Calgary rookie Joel Otto scored his first career NHL goal and Reggie Lemelin was in goal for the Calgary Flames' first shutout ever against Los Angeles, a 7-0 win over the visiting Kings. 

1986:  Minnesota North Stars' Dino Ciccarelli tied a franchise record with three goals in the second period (his 9th career hat trick) in an 8-5 win at Detroit.

1987:  Dino Ciccarelli scored two goals and added an assist as the Minnesota North Stars tied 4-4, at Los Angeles.

1989:  Tom Kurvers picked up three assists to lead the Devils to a 6-3 win over the Rangers, in New Jersey.

1990:  Minnesota's Jon Casey set a new team record with his 28th win of the season, a 3-2 North Stars victory over Montreal.  Casey broke the old mark of 27 wins, set by Gilles Meloche in 1979-80.

1993:  Minnesota North Stars majority owner - Norman Green met with a group from the Dallas Council on World Affairs in Dallas, TX including then Mayor Annette Strauss to negotiate moving the Minnesota North Stars to Dallas Texas.  It was officially announced one-week later - March 10, 1993 - that the team would move to Dallas following the 1992-1993 season.

1994:  Boston goalie Jon Casey extended his undefeated streak to 12 straight games (10-0-2) with a 6-4 home ice victory against the Kings.

1999:  The 55th annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the Target Center/Mariucci Arena from March 3-6th.

2002:  Pierre Turgeon and Jamie Langenbrunner scored 37 seconds apart in the first period as the Stars outshot the visiting Sharks 35-18 for a 4-1 victory.  It was also the Stars' 48th straight win when leading after two periods -- a new NHL record.

2004:  San Jose Sharks acquired defenseman Jason Marshall from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick (Jean-Claude Sawyer) in 2004.

2009:  Patrick Eaves and Matt Cullen scored shorthanded goals less than four minutes apart in the second period, and Eric Staal scored his third career penalty shot goal to lead the Carolina Hurricanes to a 5-2 win at Washington.

2010:  Washington acquired Scott Walker from Carolina in exchange for a 7th round pick in 2010, and the Caps also got Eric Belanger from Minnesota in trade for a second-round pick in 2010.

2010:  Phoenix acquired Wojtek Wolski from Colorado in exchange for Peter Mueller and Kevin Porter; acquired Derek Morris from Boston for a conditional choice in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, and acquired Mathieu Schneider from Vancouver in trade for Sean Zimmerman.

2010:  Vancouver Canucks acquired Andrew Alberts from Carolina in exchange for a 2010 third-round draft pick.

2010:  Niklas Backstrom made 29 saves for his second shutout of the season (the 19th of his career) to lead the Wild to a 4-0 win at Calgary.

2011:  Jose Theodore improved to 9-0-1 in his 10 previous games at Madison Square Garden, making 40 saves to lead the Wild to a 3-1 win over the Rangers in New York.

2013:  Niklas Backstrom beat the visiting Oilers for the 17th straight time at home (second longest home winning streak by any goaltender in NHL history) as the Wild beat Edmonton 4-2.  The Wild also took the first 18 shots of the game.

2014:  Darcy Kuemper became the first rookie goalie in Minnesota history to win 5 straight team games in one season and tied a team rookie record with his 11th victory of the season, a 3-2 win over the visiting Calgary Flames.

2015:  Long-time NHL, and former 1980 Miracle On Ice teammates: Neal Broten (Roseau, MN) and Dave Christian (Warroad, MN), made the Minnesota Wilds' pre-game "Let's Play Hockey" call together.
