RAMS REBOUND
Roseau, the state runner-up a season earlier, bounced back to win the state title with a 1-0 victory over St. Paul Harding in the championship game. It was the first 1-0 result in a championship game. Since, there have been five others. Larry Anderson scored the only goal the Rams would need, an early first-period tally with an assist from David Wensloff. St. Paul Harding goalie Arne Johnson stopped 38 shots. Roseau defeated International Falls 4-3 in the quarterfinals in a rematch of the 1957 state championship game.
SLAP SHOTS
- St. Paul Harding had the fewest wins (12) of the eight-team field entering the tournament. The Knights also had the most losses coming into a championship game with eight.
- St. Louis Park was undefeated entering the tournament, but also had four ties.
- St. Paul Harding defeated St. Paul Murray 3-2 in overtime in the quarterfinals. It was a replay of the Region 4 final. The Knights trailed 2-0, but rallied with three unanswered goals. Dugal McLellan scored the winner 48 seconds into overtime.
