St. Mary's University Ice Arena

The story of St. Mary's University Ice Arena today as it still stands today within southern Minnesota Winona is one of much heartache, local convincing and Collegiate hockey play that has taken place within the land that has changed from an outdoor rink, enclosed bubble to a brick and mortar indoor building over the years on the same soil on St. Mary's campus.  In certain books, the arena is dated as built built in the 1980's but not a specific year attached to the opening or when the sheet of ice was officially opened, or moved to a artificial sheet, vs. a modern day ice refrigeration plant was installed.  Looking back at the annals of Winona, MN newspaper ledgers - this rink in and of itself as it it today is one of much political debate that seemingly took place for some 20+ years in Winona.
