1940:  Frank Brimsek made 21 saves for his 15th career shutout in a 6-0 Bruins' win against Chicago, at Boston Garden.

1941:  Rookie goalie Sam LoPresti recorded his first career shutout in the Black Hawks' 1-0 win over the visiting Red Wings.

1944:  Cully Dahlstrom scored his second (and final) career hat trick in the Black Hawks' 4-2 win over the N.Y. Rangers.

1955:  Glen Sonmor suffered a career-ending injury to his left eye on this date when he was hit by a slap shot from Cleveland Barons AHL (N.Y. Rangers affiliate) teammate Steve Kraftcheck.

1960:  The U.S. Olympic team, defeated Soviet Union 3-2 in the semifinals to advance to the Gold Medal Game in the 1960 Winter Olympic Games at Squaw Valley. With the win, it marked the 1st ever time an American hockey team defeated Russia/Soviet Union, in international competition.

1970:  North Stars purchased 41-year-old goaltender Gump Worsley from the Montreal Canadiens.  Worsley went on to play 4 1/2 years with the North Stars, compiling a record of 39-37-24 with 2.62 GAA.

1971:  Jude Drouin scored a goal and added two assists to lead the North Stars to a 4-2 win over Detroit at the Met Center.

1976:  Detroit Red Wings obtained Dennis Hextall from Minnesota in trade for Bill Hogaboam and second-round pick in the 1976 entry draft.  The North Stars later used the pick to select Jim Roberts.

1982:  Rookie Neal Broten scored two goals and had an assist to lead the North Stars to a 5-5 tie with the Sabres in Minnesota.

1983:  Rookie Phil Housley picked up three assists as the Sabres picked up their third straight victory, with a 6-2 win against the Devils in Buffalo.

1984:  NHL goaltender John Curry born in Shorewood, MN.  Curry has played in the NHL since 2008-09 with Pittsburgh and Minnesota.

1985:  Reed Larson set a team record for defensemen with 5 points (3 goals and 2 assists) and Danny Gare had his 11th career hat trick (his first with Detroit) and an assist in an 11-5 win against the visiting Canucks.  

1985:  Minnesota's Brian Bellows scored his 100th career NHL goal when the North Stars lost 6-1 at Toronto.

1986:  NHL right wing JT Wyman born in Edina, MN.  Wyman has played in the NHL since 2009-10 with Montreal and Tampa Bay.

1990:  North Stars scored five goals in the third period to beat the Winnipeg Jets 8-3 in Minnesota with Neal and Aaron Broten scoring goals :55 apart in the third period as the North Stars beat the visiting Winnipeg Jets 8-3.  Brian Bellows led the scoring with two goals, including his 40th goal and an assist, Dave Gagner picked up his 30th goal and Neal Brotens' goal was his 20th goal of the season.

1994:  Boston's Adam Oates had three assists, and goaltender Jon Casey recorded his 16th and final career shutout to lead the Bruins to a 3-0 win over the Blackhawks, in Chicago.

1994:  Shjon Podein scored two goals and added an assist as the Edmonton Oilers recorded the 600th win in franchise history, 3-2 over the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning.

1995:  New Jersey Devils obtained Roseau, MN native Neal Broten from the Dallas Stars, in exchange for Cloquet, MN native Corey Millen.  Almost 4 months later to the exact date, Neal Broten won the Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils.

1996:  St. Louis obtained Wayne Gretzky from the L.A. Kings in exchange for Craig Johnson, Patrice Tardif, Roman Vopat, a 1st round pick in 1997 (Matt Zultek) and a 5th round pick in 1996 (Peter Hogan).

1998:  The Minnesota Wild launches its internet website (1 month and 5 days after the team was officially named on (January 22, 1998):  

2002:  Minnesota's Jim Dowd began a team-record 8 game assist scoring streak in a 5-3 win over the Mighty Ducks, in Anaheim.

2003:  Minnesota's Willie Mitchell set a team record for defensemen for most shots in a period with seven in the third period of a 6-3 win at Montreal.

2003: Cliff Ronning scored twice in the final four minutes of play (after getting an earlier assist) to lead the Minnesota Wild to a 6-3 win at Montreal. The victory gave Minnesota 73 points (equalling the franchise record set one year earlier).

2007:  Pittsburgh traded center Dominic Moore to Minnesota for Minnesota's 3rd-round pick in the 2007 Entry Draft.

2007:  Islanders' Jason Blake scored his 5th career hat trick in the first period and added an assist, and Trent Hunter scored his second goal on a power-play with 30.7 seconds left in overtime as New York won 6-5 against the visiting Philadelphia Flyers.

2012:  Edmonton traded Bloomington, MN native Tom Gilbert to Minnesota Wild for Nick Schultz.

2012:  Minnesota traded Greg Zanon to Boston for Steven Kampfer.

2014:  Rookie goalie Darcy Kuemper recorded his second career shutout as the Minnesota Wild beat the Oilers 3-0 in Edmonton.
