1955:  Former NHL defenseman Doug Hicks born in Cold Lake, Alberta. Hicks played in the NHL 1974-75 through 1982-83 with the Minnesota North Stars, Chicago, Edmonton and Washington.

1955:  Former NHL right wing Ron Wilson born in Windsor, Ontario. Wilson played in the NHL 1977-78 through 1987-88 with Toronto and the Minnesota North Stars. After retiring Wilson coached with Vancouver, Anaheim, Washington, San Jose and Toronto.

1969:  Former NHL goaltender Damian Rhodes born in St. Paul, Minnesota. Rhodes played in the NHL 1990-91 through 2001-02 with Toronto, Ottawa and Atlanta.

1976:  New York Rangers obtained winger Mark Heaslip from the Los Angeles Kings, in exchange for minor leaguer John Campbell.

1986:  Herb Brooks was announced at a press conference as new Head Coach of then DIII St. Cloud State University Mens Hockey team.

1991:  The "Magic of the Stars" fan celebration was held at Met Center following the Minnesota North Stars run to the Stanley Cup Final, with master of ceremony Al Shaver and Doug McLeod previewing season highlights, and a presentation of the entire 1991 team.
