1966:  Former NHL right winger Marc Bureau born in Trois-Rivieres, Que. Bureau played in the NHL 1989-90 through 1999-00 with Calgary, the Minnesota North Stars, Tampa Bay, the Montreal Canadiens and the Philadelphia Flyers.

1968:  Former NHL center Mark Janssens born in Surrey, B.C. Janssens played in the NHL 1987-88 through 2000-01 with the New York Rangers, the Minnesota North Stars, Hartford, Anaheim, the New York Islanders, Phoenix and Chicago.

1981:  Brad Maxwell set a Minnesota North Stars franchise playoff record for a defensemen with four assists, and Al MacAdam had a goal and two assists in the 4-2 win over the visiting N.Y. Islanders, in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals at Met Center, to make the series 3-1. (This was the only 1981 Stanley Cup Finals game Minnesota won in the series).

1991:  Bobby Smith became the just third player in NHL history to score five game winning goals in one playoff year, when he connected for the North Stars in a 3-1 win over Pittsburgh, in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals at Met Center in Bloomington, MN to take a 2 games to 1 series lead over the Penguins.

2002:  Nicklas Wallin scored at 13:42 of overtime (his second OT game-winner of the playoffs) and Bret Hedican got his first playoff goal in 8 years as the Hurricanes won 2-1 against the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs, in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

2014:  Henrik Lundqvist made 40 saves (including 19 in the third period) and St. Paul, MN native Ryan McDonagh had a goal and an assist to lead the Rangers to 3-1 win at Montreal in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final.
