1946: Former NHL left winger Mike Chernoff born in Yorkton, Sask. Chernoff played in the NHL 1968-69 with the Minnesota North Stars.
1946: Former NHL left winger Bill Heindl born in Sherbrooke, Que. Heindl played in the NHL 1970-71 through 1972-73 with the Minnesota North Stars and the New York Rangers.
1972: Former NHL defenseman Darryl Sydor born in Edmonton, Alta. Sydor played in the NHL 1991-92 through 2009-10 with Los Angeles, Dallas, Columbus, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, and St. Louis. He later coached with the Minnesota Wild.
1987: Former NHL goaltender Jeff Frazee born in Edina, MN, raised in Burnsville, MN. Frazee played in the NHL 2012-13 with the New Jersey Devils.
2011: Former Minnesota Wild left wing enforcer Derek Boogaard was found dead in his Minneapolis apartment by his brother Aaron Boogaard. At the time of his death - 1 month & 10 days short of his 29th birthday - Boogaard had been under contract with the N.Y. Rangers. The cause of death was later revealed to be an accidental drug and alcohol overdose as he was recovering from a concussion.
2014: Minnesota captain Mikko Koivu tied a team playoff record (set by Marian Gaborik) by appearing in his 29th career postseason game with the Wild, a 2-1 overtime loss to the visiting Blackhawks in Game 6 of the Second Round.
2015: N.Y. Rangers Forward, and Hastings, MN native - Derek Stepan scored the game-winning goal in OT of Game-7 vs. the Washington Capitals to earn the #1 Star of the Night. With the win, the Rangers secured a Eastern Conference Final match-up vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning.
