Vintage Minnesota Hockey - History

1957:  Former NHL right winger Tim Harrer born in Bloomington, Minnesota. Harrer played in the NHL 1982-83 with Calgary.

1967:  Former NHL center Steve Gotaas born in Camrose, Alta. Gotaas played in the NHL 1987-88 through 1990-91 with Pittsburgh and the Minnesota North Stars.

1988:  The MSHSL passed down ruling and advised schools to change school mascots/nicknames that had Indian nicknames that read as follows: urging the elimination of the use of racially derogatory mascots, symbols, or emblems in schools throughout the State of Minnesota.

1991:  Minnesota North Stars won 3-2 at Edmonton's Northland Coliseum, to knock the defending Stanley Cup Champions out of the playoffs, in Game 5 of the Campbell Conference Championship to win the series 4 games to 1.  Minnesota advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals for the second time in franchise history - (Previous in 1981 vs. Islanders) - vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins.

1996:  Jon Casey recorded the third and final shutout of his playoff career, and Wayne Gretzky scored his first playoff goal with the Blues, as St. Louis won 1-0 over visiting Detroit, in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals.

2000:  Minnesota Wild named the Cleveland Lumberjacks of the International Hockey League (IHL) primary developmental affiliate.

2000:  Minnesota Wild signed free agent Cory Larose.

2003:  Minnesota set a team playoff record for most shots in a game, with 39 in a 1-0 double-overtime loss to the visiting Anaheim Ducks, in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.

2012:  Minnesota Wild Defenseman Clayton Stoner re-signed by the franchise to a two-year contract extension.

2012:  Minnesota Wild added the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL as a minor-league affiliate.
