1949:  Former NHL center Bill Hogaboam born in Swift Current, Sask. Hogaboam played in the NHL 1972-73 through 1979-80 with Atlanta, Detroit and the Minnesota North Stars.

1966:  Former NHL player Mark Tinordi born in Red Deer, Alta. Tinordi played in the NHL 1987-88 through 1998-99 with the New York Rangers, the Minnesota North Stars, Dallas and Washington.

1976:  2 months after the demise of the original Fighting Saints hockey team, the 1st pro soccer game in Minnesota was played at the Met Center in Bloomington.  The NASL Minnesota Kicks beat the San Jose Earthquakes 4-1 in front of 20,000 fans.  Several former Saints employees found work with the Kicks, including Play-By-Play Announcer Frank Buetel, Public Address Announcer Rod Trongard, Public Relations Director Dave Ferroni, and Organist Rob Meads (who played the familiar Fighting Saints "When the Saints Go Marching In" song when the Kicks took to the field.

1981:  Minnesota North Stars beat Calgary 5-3, in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Semi-Finals, in Minnesota. With the victory, the North Stars advanced to the Stanley Cup Final (for the first time in their history) against the Islanders.

1990:  The NHL approved the sale of the Minnesota North Stars by George and Gordon Gund to movie producer Howard Baldwin, and retired rent-a-car executive Morris Belzberg in exchange for the Gunds gaining rights to a Bay Area team that would begin play with players from the North Stars system beginning in October 1991.  The San Jose "Sharks" were born.

1996:  St. Paul Mayor Norm Coleman says "St. Paul should renovate the St. Paul Civic Center and make a bid to lure the NHL's Hartford Whalers.  (May 6, 1997 the Whalers announce move to Raleigh, N.C.).

2009:  Dustin Byfuglien recorded his first career two-goal playoff game to give the Blackhawks a 4-2 win at Vancouver, in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals.

2013:  Minnesota Wild signed forward Raphael Bussieres to an entry-level contract.

2014:  Minnesota's Nino Niederreiter scored his third career playoff goal (and second game winner) as the Wild improved to 5-0 at home in the 2014 playoffs with a 4-2 win over the visiting Blackhawks in Game 4 of the Second Round.
