1951: Former NHL left winger Dale Smedsmo born in Roseau, Minnesota. Smedsmo played in the NHL 1972-73 with Toronto.

1977: NHL defenseman Willie Mitchell born in Ft. McNeill, B.C. Mitchell has played in the NHL since 1999-00 with New Jersey, Minnesota Wild, Dallas, Vancouver, Los Angeles and Florida.

1987: Herb Brooks became the first Minnesota native to be named Head Coach of the Minnesota North Stars, replacing Glen Sonmor.

1999: Ottawa set a team playoff record with 47 shots and Damian Rhodes set a team playoff record with 36 saves, in a 3-2 double overtime loss to the visiting Buffalo Sabres, in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals.

2002: Mark Parrish scored 2 of New York's 4 power-play goals & Chris Osgood made 34 saves as the Islanders won their first home playoff game in 9 years, a 6-1 victory over the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs, in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals.

2012:  Hastings native Derek Stepan scored a goal and two assists as the Rangers beat the Senators 3-2 in Ottawa in game 6 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

2013:  Charlie Coyle and Cal Clutterbuck scored 16 seconds apart late in the first period and Clutterbuck was credited with six hits to lead the Wild to a 2-1 win of the visiting L.A. Kings.

2014:  Minneapolis, MN native Paul Martin became the first defenseman in Stanley Cup history to start a playoff year with four straight multi-point games, with two assists in a 4-3 overtime loss for the Penguins at Columbus in Game 4 of the First Round.

2018:  Minnesota Wild General Manager - the second G.M. in franchise history - was relieved is his duties as Executive Vice President and G.M.  Assistant G.M. Brent Flahr was named as his interm replacement until a new G.M. could be found.
