Vintage Minnesota Hockey - History

1945:  NHL season ending All-Stars: Toe Blake, Elmer Lach, Maurice Richard, Emile Bouchard- Flash Hollett - Bill durnan - 2nd team: Syd Howe, Bill Cowley, Bill Mosienko, Glen Harmon, Babe Pratt, Mike Karakas.

1970:  Tommy Williams scored a goal and two assists, and Lou Nanne added three assists to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 5-1 win over the Penguins at Pittsburgh.

1970:  Minnesota's Charlie Burns became the last player/coach in NHL history, when he played in the North Stars' final game of the 1969-70 season, a 5-1 win at Pittsburgh.

1972:  Minnesota goaltender Gump Worsley recorded his 5th (and final) career playoff shutout in the North Stars' 3-0 win over the visiting St. Louis Blues, in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Quarter-Finals.

1972:  Wayne Connelly became the 1st former NHL player to sign for the newly formed Minnesota Fighting Saints of the WHA.

1980:  Buffalo's rookie defenseman Mike Ramsey scored his first career NHL goal, in a 9-1 win at Pittsburgh, that increased the Sabres' undefeated streak to a team-record 13 games (7-0-6).

1983:  Washington signed Bryan Erickson as a free agent.

1983:  Former NHL defenseman Clay Wilson born in Sturgeon Lake, Minn.  Wilson played in the NHL 2007-08 through 2011-12 with Columbus, Atlanta, Florida and Calgary.

1984:  Washington set a team playoff record for fastest two goals when Craig Laughlin and Dave Christian scored in a span of :32 during the third period of a 6-2 win over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers, in Game 2 of the Patrick Division Semi-Finals.

1986:  Minnesota North Stars were credited with the 350th home victory in franchise history, 5-3 over the Detroit Red Wings.

1989:  Bob Brooke tied a team record with three goals as the Minnesota North Stars lost 4-3 in overtime to the Blues, in Game 1 of the Norris Division Semi-Finals at St. Louis.

1995:  Martin Brodeur was in goal as the New Jersey Devils picked up their first shutout against the Senators, a 2-0 victory in Ottawa. Neal Broten had a goal and an assist and Brodeur picked up his 5th career shutout.

1997:  Dallas Stars veteran Neal Broten set an all-time record for most career NHL games played by a U.S. born player during a 3-3 tie, at Los Angeles. Broten appeared in his 1,098th game, breaking the record set by Gordie Roberts.

1998:  Ottawa's Damian Rhodes became the first goalie in team history to get five shutouts in one season when the Senators beat the Sabres 1-0 in Buffalo.

2006:  Matt Cullen scored a goal in regulation and the lone goal in the shootout, Cory Stillman had 3 assists (to give him 300) & Martin Gerber tied a franchise record with his 37th win of the season in the Hurricanes 4-3 victory over the Capitals at Washington.

2007:  Minnesota rookie Niklas Backstrom tied a team record with his 5th shutout of the season, a 3-0 win over the visiting Edmonton Oilers. It was also his second 3-0 shutout win over the visiting Oilers in three days.

2009:  Minnesota's Niklas Backstrom made 41 saves in a 3-2 loss in Detroit.

2010: Erik Johnson became the first defenseman in St. Louis Blues history to get two overtime goals in one season, when he scored at 3:59 of OT for a 2-1 win over the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets.

2010:  Minnesota defenseman John Scott picked up 19 penalty minutes in a 4-1 loss in Edmonton.

2012:  Minnesota defenseman Marco Scandella set a team record by playing 35:32 and also picked up an assist in a 2-1 shootout win over the visiting Chicago Blackhawks.

2013:  San Jose Sharks announced the signing of free agent (and La Crescent, MN native) Eriah Hayes.

2014:  In front of the largest crowd ever for a Wild game at Xcel Energy Center – 19,409 – Minnesota earned a 4-0 shutout win vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins in Saint Paul. G Ilya Bryzgalov made 20 saves to earn his second shutout with the Wild, moving to 5-0-3 with Minnesota. C Erik Haula, C Mikko Koivu and LW Stephane Veilleux all scored in the first period, while C Cody McCormick added a goal in the second period.

2014:  LW Zach Parise used an assist to register his 500th NHL point, before adding another helper to record his 115th career multi-point game and 12th of the season, tying Mikko Koivu for team lead.  With the point both Zach and his Father J.P. Parise, join Gordie and Mark Howe, Bobby and Brett Hull to become the third Father-Son duo to tally 500 NHL points. Ilya Bryzgalov improved to 5-0-3 with Minnesota (his 33rd career shutout) as the Wild beat the visiting Penguins 4-0.

2015:  St. Louis Blues Forward, and Spring Lake Park, MN native - David Backes had 1 goal to earn the #2 Star of the Night in the Blues' 2-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.
