Vintage Minnesota Hockey - History

1953:  Former NHL center Blake Dunlop born in Hamilton, Ont. Dunlop played in the NHL 1973-74 through 1983-84 with the Minnesota North Stars, Philadelphia, St. Louis and Detroit.

1970:  Gump Worsley recorded his 41st career shutout (and first with Minnesota), in a 1-0 North Stars' win over the Flyers that knocked Philadelphia out of the playoffs. Barry Gibbs scored the winner on a soft shot from the blue line at 7:48 of final period.

1973:  Cesare Maniago was in goal for the first road playoff shutout in Minnesota North Stars history (the second shutout of his playoff career) a 3-0 win in Philadelphia in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Quarter-Finals.

1981:  Goaltender Gilles Meloche got his 16th career shutout as the Minnesota North Stars won 5-0 at St. Louis.

1982:  Former NHL right winger Brandon Bochenski born in Blaine, MN. Bochenski played in the NHL 2005-06 through 2009-10 with Ottawa, Chicago, Boston, Anaheim, Nashville, and Tampa Bay.

1986:  Former NHL defenseman Cam Barker born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Barker played in the NHL 2005-06 through 2012-13 with Chicago, Minnesota Wild, Edmonton and Vancouver.

1990:  Minnesota's Brian Bellows scored twice to lead the North Stars to a 2-1 win at Chicago, in Game 1 of the Norris Division Semi-Finals.

1991:  Minnesota's Neal Broten had two goals and an assist, and Brian Propp scored the winner on a power-play goal at 4:14 of overtime to lead the North Stars to a 4-3 win at Chicago, in Game 1 of the Norris Division Semi-Finals.

1995:  Devils' Neal Broten picked up his 600th career NHL assist as New Jersey tied 1-1 with the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning.

2001:  Rookie Pavel Patera scored his first goal as a member of the Wild, and Jamie McLennan made 41 saves when Minnesota tied the Oilers 2-2 at Edmonton.

2002:  Minnesota Wild signed free agent right wing Jeff Hoggan from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.

2002:   The NCAA Frozen Four returned to St. Paul at the same hallowed grounds as the 1989 Championship at the Civic Center when it came to the Xcel Energy Center.  It marked the first NCAA Frozen Four to return to St. Paul since the 1994 NCAA Championship.

2003:  San Jose Sharks signed unrestricted free agents Tom Preissing (of Colorado College) and Craig Valette (with the Portland Winter Hawks of the WHL).

2004:  Minnesota's Dwayne Roloson recorded his 16th career shutout as the Wild beat the visiting St. Louis Blues, 3-0.

2006:  Minnesota rookie Josh Harding became the first goaltender in NHL history to appear in a shootout in his first league game, and led the Wild to a 5-4 win over the visiting St. Louis Blues.

2010:  Peter Mueller scored twice to give him 9 goals in 15 games with Colorado (and added an assist) and John-Michael Liles scored at 2:59 of overtime as the Avalanche beat the visiting Sharks 5-4.

2010:  Andrew Brunette became the second player to score 100 goals as a member of the Minnesota Wild, and added an assist in a 4-3 overtime loss at Vancouver.

2017:  As part of the Minnesota Wild last home game of the 2016-2017 season, and fan appreciation night between the visiting Carolina Hurricanes.  Minnesota Wild donned 1967 replica Minnesota North Stars jerseys for pre-game warm-ups in recognition of the NHL first coming to Minnesota 50 years prior.  A limited number of North Stars jerseys worn by players were then randomly given away to fans during the game.  Former North Stars inaugural season goaltender Carl Wetzel made the "Let's Play Hockey" call prior to the game.
