Vintage Minnesota Hockey - History

1938:  Boston Bruins signed goaltender Frankie Brimsek.

1954:  Former NHL left winger Richard Nantais born in Repentigny, Que.  Nantais played in the NHL 1974-75 through 1976-77 with the Minnesota North Stars.

1958:  Former NHL left winger Brian MacLellan born in Guelph, Ontario.  MacLellan played in the NHL 1982-83 through 1991-92 with Los Angeles, the New York Rangers, the Minnesota North Stars, Calgary and Detroit.

1965:  Former NHL player Larry DePalma born in Trenton, MI.  DePalma played in the NHL 1985-86 through 1993-94 with the Minnesota North Stars, San Jose and Pittsburgh.

1965:  Former NHL right winger Paul Broten born in Roseau, MN.  Broten played in the NHL 1989-90 through 1995-96 with the New York Rangers, Dallas and St. Louis.

1976:  Pierre Jarry scored two goals and an assist and Tim Young had a goal and two assists to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 5-3 win against the Maple Leafs, at Toronto.

1978:  Former NHL center Toby Petersen born in Minneapolis, MN.  Petersen played in the NHL 2000-01 through 2012-2013 with Pittsburgh, Edmonton, and Dallas.

1979:  Steve Payne scored his second career hat trick to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 7-2 win against the NY Rangers.

1987:  Keith Acton and Brian Lawton each scored twice to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 5-3 win, at St. Louis.

1991:  Winnipeg Jets rookie Stu Barnes scored his first two career NHL goals and added an assist and defenseman Phil Housley had a goal and three assists as the Jets won 6-5 over the visiting Washington Capitals.

2000:  Darby Hendrickson and Filip Kuba scored in the first period as Minnesota won 3-1 against the visiting Calgary Flames, despite getting only 13 shots on goal.  Manny Fernandez recorded his first victory with the team.

2002:  Trailing 3-1 midway through the final period, the Wild got two late goals to tie the Avalanche 3-3 in Colorado, despite being outshot 45-16. Dwayne Roloson made 42 saves for Minnesota.

2006:  Minnesota's Brian Rolston set a team with 11 shots in the game (and scored once) and Mikko Koivu scored the lone goal in a shootout to lead the Wild to a 3-2 win against the visiting Anaheim Ducks.

2008:  Minnesota Wild went their seventh straight game from the start of the season without allowing a power play goal, in a 3-2 win over the visiting Chicago Blackhawks. The win extended Niklas Backstrom's unbeaten streak (over two seasons) to 11-0-1.

2013:  South St. Paul native Alex Stalock made 38 saves in the first start of his NHL career to lead the Sharks to a 5-2 win at Ottawa; it was also his first victory with San Jose in 999 days (since Feb. 1, 2011) - the longest gap in team history.

2014:  Minnesota Wild tied a franchise record by scoring four goals in the first period loss to the N.Y. Rangers 5-4 at Madison Square Garden.  John Moore was suspended five games by the NHL player safety committee for his hit on Minnesota Wild forward Erik Haula.

2015:  As part of the annual NHL Fights Cancer - Minnesota Wild signed Bridget Villebrun to a one-day contract prior to the Minnesota Wild vs. Edmonton Oilers game in Saint Paul.  Bridget as part of the Minnesota Make a Wish Foundation, wore sweater #11 for the day and was assigned a locker alongside Minnesota Wild teammate #11 Zach Parise.

2015:  Bloomington, MN native, and Minnesota Wild forward - Zach Parise played in his 700th NHL game vs. the visiting Edmonton Oilers in Saint Paul, MN.
