Vintage Minnesota Hockey - History

1972:  The Minnesota Fighting Saints first 2-goal performace game was scored by Wayne Connelly of the Saints, against the New York Golden Blades of the WHA.

1976:  Minnesota's Pierre Jarry had a goal and an assist in the first period as the North Stars played in Colorado for the first time in team history, and picked up a 3-3 tie against the Rockies, before an announced crowd of 5,003.

1980:  Bobby Smith scored twice and added an assist to lead the North Stars to a 4-2 win over the Nordiques, in Minnesota.

1981:  Minnesota's Dino Ciccarelli scored his second career hat trick as the North Stars tied the St. Louis Blues, 5-5.

1981:  North Stars signed Warren Young as a free agent.

1983:  Phil Housley scored a goal and added two assists as the Sabres won 5-2 over the Whalers at Hartford.

1985:  Brian Bellows set a North Stars' team record for most shots in a period when he took nine in the second during a 5-4 win over the Blues at the Met Center.

1986:  Dino Ciccarelli scored a goal and added two assists as the North Stars won 8-3 at St. Louis.

1987:  Minnesota's Dino Ciccarelli scored a goal and added four assists to lead the North Stars to a 5-3 win over the Nordiques at Quebec City.

1990:  Morris Belzberg leaves the franchise and sells his North Stars 25% team shares to Norman N. Green, with this transaction Green became the sole owner of the North Stars.

1991:  Basil McRae picked up 37 penalty minutes for the North Stars in a 4-2 loss vs Calgary.

1992:  Mike Craig scored two goals and an assist, and Todd Elik had three assists to lead the North Stars to a 5-2 win against the Quebec Nordiques, at the Met Center.

2000:  Minnesota goalie Jamie McLennan stopped 24 shots for the Wild's first shutout in team history, 0-0 against the visiting Panthers.

2002:  Wilds' Cliff Ronning scored the OT winner (after picking up his 800th career NHL point with an earlier assist) in a 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames.  The victory ended an 0-11-17 winless streak in overtime for the Wild (dating to March 2001).

2003:  Craig Johnson played in his 500th career NHL game as Anaheim won 4-3 over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers.

2005:  Minnesota's Brian Rolston scored in his fifth straight game and goalie Manny Fernandez made 18 saves in the final period as the Wild overcame a two goal deficit for a 3-2 win at St. Louis.

2006:  Philadelphia Flyers announced the resignation of G.M. Bob Clarke, and the firing of head coach Ken Hitchcock.  Assistant coach John Stevens was named as the interim head coach, and Paul Holmgren took over for Clarke.

2008:  Ted Lindsay, Brian Burke, Phil Housley and Bob Naegele received the Lester Patrick Award, for service to hockey in the United States, at a luncheon held in Minneapolis, MN.

2008:  Keith Tkachuk set a St. Louis franchise record by scoring in the Blues' sixth straight game from the start of the season and T.J. Oshie scored his first career goal in a 4-3 loss to the visiting Detroit Red Wings.

2009:  Zach Parise scored the first and last goals of the game -- and added an assist to lead the Devils to a 4-2 win over the Rangers, in New York.

2013:  NY Islanders rookie, and Warroad MN native - Brock Nelson scored his first career NHL goal in a 5-4 overtime loss to the visiting Vancouver Canucks.

2013:  Minnesota's Josh Harding recorded his 8th career shutout and Wild defenseman Ryan Suter logged 28:52 of ice time in his 600th career game, a 2-0 win over the visiting Nashville Predators.

2014:  Minnesota Wild resigned center Charlie Coyle to a 5-year, $16 Million extension for 3.2 AAV.
