1938: Former NHL defenseman Gary Bergman born in Kenora, Ont. Bergman played in the NHL 1964-65 through 1975-76 with Detroit, the Minnesota North Stars and Kansas City.
1976: The "New" Minnesota Fighting Saints play in the franchises first game on the road vs. Cincinnati Stingers after relocating to Minnesota from Cleveland (August 10th, 1976) in a 7-2 loss. Saints goaltender Mike Curran faced 43 shots in the loss with 36 saves made. Minnesota was down 7-0 to enter the final period, when John McKenzie scored the Saints first team goal at 15:59 of the 3rd period. Mike Antonovich also scored the second goal at 19:48 of the 3rd in the loss. (The "New" Minnesota Fighting Saints first home game came three days later on October 10, 1976).
1978: The Minnesota North Stars faced off against their NHL counterparts in fall exhibition games vs the WHA in games played from 72-78. The North Stars-9 vs. Edmonton Oilers-3 was played on this date.
1983: The North Stars and Vancouver Canucks set a Stars record with seven power play goals.
1985: Minnesota North Stars claimed defenseman Dave Langevin from the New York Islanders in the annual NHL Waiver Draft.
1991: Neal Broten ended his contract hold-out with the Minnesota North Stars in his first game back since re-signing with the club in a 6-3 loss to Team U.S.A. at Met Center.
1994: The Minnesota Moose expansion team of the IHL played their first home-game in franchise history vs. the visiting Milwaukee Admirals in a 2-1 Moose loss at the St. Paul Civic Center to begin the inaugural season 0-2. Minnesota took the initial lead following a Moose goal by Daniel Shank late in the 1st period beating Admirals goaltender Hrivnak at 18:56.
1997: Richfield, MN native - Damian Rhodes was in goal as the Ottawa Senators picked up their first shutout against the Sharks, a 1-0 victory in San Jose. It was his 4th career shutout.
2000: Jim Dowd scored his first goal as a member of the Wild when Minnesota lost 4-1 against the Coyotes at Phoenix.
2001: Wild scored a power play goal, a shorthanded goal, an even-strength goal & a penalty shot goal (the 1st in team history, by Sebastien Bordeleau) in a 4-3 win over the Kings, in Los Angeles. Manny Fernandez made a save on a Ziggy Palffy penalty shot
2006: Brian Rolston scored the winning goal with 1:11 left in regulation, and the Wild tied a team record with five power-play goals, in a 6-5 win over the visiting Nashville Predators.
2010: To open the 2010-2011 NHL season, Minnesota Wild faced off against the Carolina Hurricaines at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki (Finland) before 12,355 spectators. The Hurricaines defeated the Wild 4-3 behind Brandon Sutters two goals, and Jussi Jokinen goal and an assist for the Hurricaines.
