1941:  Former NHL center Ray Cullen born in Ottawa, Ont.  Cullen played in the NHL 1965-66 through 1970-71 with the New York Rangers, Detroit, the Minnesota North Stars and Vancouver.

1967:  The expansion Minnesota North Stars played their fourth preseason game in team history (and fourth in as many nights), and improved to 3-1-0 with a 10-4 win over Memphis of the CHL, in a game played at Kingston, Ontario.

1971:  Former NHL right winger Jeff Nielsen born in Grand Rapids, MN.  Nielsen played in the NHL 1996-97 through 2000-01 with the New York Rangers, Anaheim and the Minnesota Wild.

1991:  Montreal Canadiens traded Stephane Richer and Tom Chorske to New Jersey in exchange for Kirk Muller and goalie Roland Melanson.

2009:  Newcomer Martin Havlat scored 86 seconds into the game, then added a second goal to lead the Wild to a 3-0 preseason win over the visiting Chicago Blackhawks.

2011:  Mark Johnson, Bob Pulford, executive Tony Rossi and college coach Jeff Sauer were named the 2011 recipients of the Lester Patrick Award, for outstanding service to hockey in the United States.
