1936:  Former NHL center Milan Marcetta born in Cadomin, Alta.  Marcetta played in the NHL 1966-67 through 1968-69 with Toronto and the Minnesota North Stars.

1943:  Former NHL left winger Andre Boudrias born in Montreal, Que.  Boudrias played in the NHL 1963-64 through 1975-76 with Montreal, the Minnesota North Stars, St. Louis and Vancouver. He later served as assistant coach with Quebec.

1957:  Former NHL defenseman Dan Poulin born in Robertsville, Que.  Poulin played in the NHL 1981-82 through 1982-83 with the Minnesota North Stars and Philadelphia.

1961:  Former NHL goalie Don Beaupre born in Waterloo, Ont.  Beaupre played in the NHL 1980-81thru 1996-97 with the Minnesota North Stars, Washington, Ottawa and Toronto.

1967:  The expansion Minnesota North Stars played their third preseason game in team history (and third in three nights), and suffered the first loss in team history, 6-2 to the Los Angeles Kings in a game played at Guelph, Ontario.

1978:  J.P. Parise retires after 12 NHL seasons and is named a Minnesota North Stars assistant coach.

1994:  The Minnesota Moose of the newly formed IHL played their first game in franchise history, a pre-season game on the road against the Denver Grizzlies, at the Denver University Arena.

2000:  Minnesota Wild played their first preseason game in franchise history, a 3-3 tie against the San Jose Sharks, in a game played at Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Oregon.  The first goal in franchise history was scored by Scott Pellerin off of a rebound from his own shot against Sharks Goaltender Johan Hedberg scored 3 minutes and 59 seconds into the game.

2000:  11 Minnesota Wild players, who didn't make the travel with the expansion team to Portland Oregon, worked out at the arena, and took part in the first ever practice and skate on newly built Xcel Energy Center ice.  Forward Sergei Krivokrasov was the first player on the ice, with Assistant Coach Mike Ramsey and goaltending consultant Andre LeBrun running the practice.  Forward Jeff Odgers, said it was hard to judge the arena with no one in the seats except construction workers on their lunch breaks, but "the building looks great and everybody is going to be close to the action.
