1952:  Former NHL right winger Warren "Butch" Williams was born in Duluth, MN.  Williams played in the NHL 1973-74 through 1975-76 with St. Louis and Oakland.

1984:  Calgary Flames signed Joel Otto as a free agent.

2000:  Neal Broten, Larry Pleau and Doug Palazzari were named to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in Eveleth, MN.

2003:  Minnesota Wild signed free agent Chris McAlpine, who had spent the 2002-03 season with the Los Angeles Kings.

2014:  Minnesota Wild and restricted free-agent Nino Niederreiter agreed to terms of a three-year $8 Million dollar contract with the Wild, one-week before the start of training camp.
