1960: Former NHL goalie Roland Melanson born in Moncton, New Brunswick. Melanson played in the NHL 1980-81 through 1991-92 with the New York Islanders, the Minnesota North Stars, Los Angeles, New Jersey and Montreal.
1972: Former NHL right winger Tony Virta born in Hameenlinna, Finland. Virta played in the NHL 2001-02 with the Minnesota Wild.
1994: Hartford Whalers named Jim Rutherford as their new general manager and Paul Holmgren as head coach, replacing Pierre Maguire. It was Holmgren's second stint as Whalers coach.
2000: Minnesota Wild signed free agent Wes Walz.
2001: Minnesota Wild signed center Tony Virta.
2006: Hockey Hall of Fame announced its newest members: Former players Patrick Roy and Dick Duff, and Builders Herb Brooks and Harley Hotchkiss.
2013: Minnesota Wild re-signed Defenseman - Steve Kampfer to a one-year, two-way contract.
