1959:  Former NHL left winger Steve Martinson born in Minnetonka, MN.  Martinson played in the NHL 1987-88 through 1991-92 with Detroit, Montreal and the Minnesota North Stars.

1973:  The US Hockey Hall of Fame Museum - located in Eveleth, MN - opened to the public and enshrined it's first inaugural-class members in a ceremony held at museum, and Eveleth Hippodrome.  Inducted were:  Administrators: Walter Brown, George Brown, William Tutt, Lyle Wright, Thomas Lockhart, John Gibson.  Coaches: Edward Jeremiah, Clifford Thompson, Malcom Gordon.  Players: Sam LoPresti, Carl Dahlstrom, Michael Karakas, John Chase, Francis Goheen, Alfred Winsor, George Owen, Clarence Abel, Frank Brimsek, John Mariucci, Hobart Baker, Myles Lane,Winthrop Palmer, Edwin Romnes, & Frank Winters.

1979:  Former NHL goalie Derek Gustafson born in Gresham, Oregon.  Gustafson played in the NHL 2000-01 through 2001-02 with the Minnesota Wild.

1984:  Vancouver Canucks traded Harold Snepsts, their all-time leader in games played (683) to the Minnesota North Stars in exchange for left wing Al MacAdam.

1985:  Lorne Henning replaced Glen Sonmor as coach of the Minnesota North Stars.

1991:  Minnesota North Stars traded Shawn Chambers to Washington in exchange for Trent Klatt and Steve Maltais.

1991:  Harold Snepsts officially announced his NHL retirement after 17 seasons with Vancouver, Minnesota North Stars, Detroit and St. Louis, and was named Head Coach of Peoria (IHL)

1997:  New York Rangers obtained Mike Peluso from the St. Louis Blues, in exchange for future considerations, on the day of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.

2000:  Minnesota State University Mavericks Tim Jackman became the first MSU player to get selected in the NHL Draft.  The Columbus Blue Jackets took the forward in the second round with the 38th overall pick.

2003:  Phoenix Coyotes acquired defensemen David Tanabe and Igor Knyazev from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for defenseman Danny Markov and a conditional fourth-round draft choice in the 2004 NHL Draft.

2003:  Tampa Bay Lightning acquired left wing Cory Stillman from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a 2003 second-round draft pick.  The Blues used the pick later in the day to select David Backes.

2010:  Minnesota Wild acquired right wing Brad Staubitz, a restricted free agent from the San Jose Sharks, in exchange for the Wild’s fifth round pick (#129) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
