1936:  Chicago's Mike Karakas recorded the 9th shutout of his rookie season as the Black Hawks won 2-0 over the visiting Montreal Canadiens.

1954:  Former NHL defenseman John Taft born in Minneapolis, MN.  Taft played in the NHL 1978-79 with Detroit.

1972:  Derek Sanderson picked up three assists as the Bruins set an NHL record with their eighth straight road victory, a 5-4 win over the North Stars at Met Center.

1973:  The 29th annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the Metropolitan Sports Center from March 8-10th.

1982:  Dino Ciccarelli became the first North Stars player to score 50 goals in a season, as the North Stars extended their team-record undefeated streak to 9 straight games (7-0-2), with an 8-1 win over the visiting St. Louis Blues.

1982:  Toronto Maple Leafs acquired Jim Korn from Detroit for 4th Round Draft Choice in 1982 Entry Draft (Craig Coxe) and 5th Round Choice in 1983 Entry Draft (Joey Kocur).

1982:  Steve Christoff had a goal and three assists as the North Stars extended their team-record undefeated streak to 9 straight games (7-0-2), with an 8-1 win over the visiting St. Louis Blues.

1983:  Minnesota North Stars traded Ken Solheim to Detroit, in exchange for future considerations.

1983:  Tim Young scored a 'pure' hat trick (the second of his career) to lead the North Stars to a 5-1 win against Buffalo, in Minnesota.

1984:  Defenseman Reed Larson had two goals and an assist as the Red Wings beat the visiting St. Louis Blues 6-3.

1984:  The 40th annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the St. Paul Civic Center from March 8-10th.

1988:  Minnesota Governor Rudy Perpich recognizes Bob Somers, Harry Sundberg, and Ron Woodey for their contributions to hockey in the State of Minnesota and declares March 9th 'St. Paul Vulcans Day' in the State of Minnesota.

1988:  New York Islanders traded Gord Dineen to the Minnesota North Stars in exchange for Chris Pryor and future considerations.

1989:  New Jersey's Aaron Broten tied a team scoring record with five points (two goals and three assists) as the Devils won 7-5, at Chicago.

1990:  The 46th annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the St. Paul Civic Center from March 8-10th.  The beloved Minnesota Rink Rats t-shirts were born at this Tourney.

1992:  Quebec Nordiques traded Kip Miller to the Minnesota North Stars in exchange for Steve Maltais.

1992:  Winnipeg Jets rookie Keith Tkachuk scored his first career NHL goal in a 4-2 loss to the North Stars in Minnesota.

1994:  Neal Broten scored two goals, including the winner at 2:43 of OT to lead the Stars to a 4-3 win over the Flyers, at Philadelphia.

1995:  The 51st annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the St. Paul Civic Center and Mariucci Arena from March 8th-11th.

2000:  The 56st annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the Target Center and Mariucci Arena from March 8th-11th.

2002:  Sergei Zholtok and Jim Dowd each picked up their 100th career NHL assists as the Wild won 5-3 against the Stars at Dallas.

2004:  Buffalo Sabres acquired defenseman Brad Brown and a sixth-round draft pick in 2005 from the Minnesota Wild for a fourth-round draft pick in 2005.

2006:  The 62nd annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the Xcel Energy Center and Mariucci Arena from March 8th-11th.

2006:  Minnesota traded Dwayne Roloson to Edmonton in exchange for the Oilers' 1st-round pick in the 2006 Entry Draft and another future pick (both of which were later traded).

2006:  Los Angeles Kings acquired Mark Parrish and Brent Sopel from the New York Islanders.

2007:  Minnesota Wild became the first team since Ottawa in 1926 to win each of their first 4 all-time games in Boston, when they beat the Bruins 2-1. Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored the game winning goal and assisted on the other.

2008:  New Jersey Devils won their 40th game of the season for the 11th consecutive year (two short of Montreal's record of 13 straight 40 win seasons); the milestone came in a 2-1 victory at Toronto. Zach Parise scored the winner with 48.3 left in regulation.

2009:  Minnesota's Stephane Veilleux 1:08 into the game and added a second goal and Andrew Brunette became the fourth player to score 200 points as a member of the Wild; he reached the milestone with a goal in a 3-2 win at Anaheim.

2012:  Minneapolis, MN native Zach Parise had two assists to give him 400 career points with New Jersey as the Devils beat the visiting Islanders 5-1.

2013:  Minneapolis, MN native Dustin Byfuglien scored with 40.5 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Winnipeg Jets a 3-2 win over the Panthers in Florida.

2014:  Dallas Stars retired former Minnesota North Stars Mike Modano uniform #9 in an on-ice ceremony before the Dallas Stars vs. Minnesota Wild game at American Airlines Center, in which Dallas defeated Minnesota 4-3 in regulation.  With the jersey retirement, Modanos' #9 jersey joined former North Stars players: Bill Masterton #19, Bill Goldsworthy #8 and Neal Broten #7 to the rafters.

2017:  The 73rd annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the Xcel Energy Center and Mariucci Arena from March 8th-11th.
