1939:  Bruins clinched the NHL regular season championship (in the new single division league) by beating the Red Wings 3-0 in Boston.  Rookie Frankie Brimsek recorded the 10th shutout of the season.

1960:  Former NHL right winger Bryan Erickson born in Roseau, Minnesota. Erickson played in the NHL 1983-84 through 1993-94 with Washington, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh and Winnipeg.

1968:  Sandy Fitzpatrick scored twice to lead the North Stars to a 2-2 tie against the Penguins in Minnesota.

1970:  Bill Collins scored his second career hat trick in the Minnesota North Stars' 8-3 win over the Maple Leafs, at Toronto.

1971:  Minnesota North Stars traded Dick Redmond and Tom Williams to the California Seals, in exchange for Ted Hampson and Wayne Muloin.

1973:  Dennis Hextall scored his first career hat trick and added an assist, and Bill Goldsworthy had two goals and two assists as the Minnesota North Stars recorded the 100th home win in franchise history, 10-4 over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

1974:  The 30th annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the Metropolitan Sports Center from March 7-9th.

1976:  Rookie Tim Young scored a goal and added two assists as the Minnesota North Stars lost 4-3 to the Canucks at the Met Center.

1977:  Murray Armstrong, Johnny Bucyk, and Eveleth native (Godfather of Minnesota Hockey) John Mariucci received the 12th annual NHL's Lester Patrick Award in recognition of outstanding service to hockey in the United States at a banquet in New York City.

1977:  Mel Bridgman scored both goals, and Paul Holmgren picked up a team record 39 penalty minutes, as the Flyers lost 4-2 to the Maple Leafs at the Spectrum.

1979:  Rookie Bobby Smith had three assists to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 5-1 win over Detroit at the Met Center.

1981:  Defenseman Craig Hartsburg scored a goal and added three assists to lead the North Stars to an 8-5 win against the Penguins in Minnesota.

1984:  Jim Korn scored the only hat trick of his NHL career as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the New Jersey Devils 8-4.

1985:  The 41st annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the St. Paul Civic Center from March 7-9th.

1986:  Minnesota North Stars signed Ron Wilson as a free agent.

1987:  Dino Ciccarelli scored his 50th goal of the season for the second time in his career, as the North Stars lost 7-3 to the Penguins in Minnesota.

1988:  Winnipeg Jets traded goaltender John Blue to the Minnesota North Stars for Jets’ 7th round pick, Markus Akerblom, in 1988 Entry Draft.

1989:  New York Islanders traded Reed Larson to the Minnesota North Stars in exchange for future considerations.

1989:  Minnesota North Stars traded Dino Ciccarelli (their all-time leading scorer) and Bob Rouse to Washington in exchange for Mike Gartner and Larry Murphy.

1990:  NHL goaltender Matt Hackett born in London, Ont.  Hackett has played in the NHL since 2011-12 with Minnesota and Buffalo.

1991:  The 47th annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the St. Paul Civic Center from March 7-9th.

2000:  Minnesota Wild hosts the Calgary Flames and plays its 400th consecutive sellout at Xcel Energy Center.

2001:  The 57th annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the Xcel Energy Center and Mariucci Arena from March 7th-10th.

2008:  19,559 fans attended the 2008 State Boys’ Hockey Tournament Class AA semifinals at Xcel Energy Center, setting a new record for the largest crowd to attend a hockey game in the State of Minnesota.

2002:  Marian Gaborik became the 1st player in Minnesota Wild history to score 20 goals; he finished the night by adding his 21st goal of the year, and Dwayne Roloson recorded the Wild's first ever shutout against the Blues with a 3-0 win at St. Louis.

2007:  The 63rd annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the Xcel Energy Center and Mariucci Arena from March 7th-10th.

2012:  The 68th annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the Xcel Energy Center and Mariucci Arena from March 7th-10th.

2014:  St. Paul, MN native Ryan McDonagh scored a shorthanded goal for the second game in a row as the Rangers beat the Hurricanes 4-2 in Carolina.

2020:  A bronze statue was unveiled to public of long-time Edina Hornets boys hockey coach - Willard Ikola outside of Edina Braemar Arena.  The statue, featuring Ikes' trademarked hounds tooth hat, and x1 leg up on bench was put together 100% with donation money consisting of Ikola's family, friends and former players money.
