1937:  Former NHL defenseman Larry Hillman born in Kirkland Lake, Ont. Hillman played in the NHL 1954-55 through 1972-73 with Detroit, Boston, Toronto, the Minnesota North Stars, Montreal, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Buffalo and Winnipeg.

1939:  Boston's Frank Brimsek recorded the 8th shutout of his rookie season in the Bruins' 3-0 win at Chicago.

1973:  Former NHL defenseman Richard Matvichuk born in Edmonton, Alta.   Matvichuk played in the NHL 1992-93 through 2006-07 with Minnesota North Stars, Dallas and New Jersey.

1977:  Roland Eriksson scored a goal and added two assists to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 5-5 tie against the Vancouver Canucks at the Met Center.

1980:  Craig Hartsburgh, Gilles Meloche and Steve Payne represent the North Stars in the 1980 NHL All-Star game played in Detroit.

1981:  Defenseman Reed Larson scored a goal and added two assists to lead the Red Wings to a 6-4 win over the visiting Los Angeles Kings.

1988:  Los Angeles traded Roseau, MN native Bryan 'Butsy' Erickson to Pittsburgh in exchange for Chris Kontos and Los Angeles' sixth round draft choice in the 1988 Entry Draft (Micah Aivazoff).

1989:  Brian Bellows scored twice and added an assist as the Minnesota North Stars won 5-3 over the Rangers at New York.

1990:  Bloomington, MN hospitality industry rejected a proposal for a city hotel and liquor tax to help raise the $15 million to renovate Met Center.  A Star Tribune/KSTP-TV poll revealed that almost two thirds of Minnesotans believe it is important for the state to have a pro hockey team, but an equal number said they wouldn't be upset if the North Stars left.

1994:  Goaltender Jon Casey recorded his 14th career shutout, and Ray Bourque scored two goals and added an assist in the Bruins' 4-0 win over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers.

1994:  Tom Kurvers scored with 2:57 remaining in regulation to give the Mighty Ducks a 3-2 win over the Kings, in Los Angeles.

2003:  Filip Kuba and Wes Walz scored three minutes apart early in the second period and Dwayne Roloson made 21 saves to lead the Wild to a 2-1 win over the visiting Chicago Blackhawks.

2004:  A bronze statue of the late St. Paul, MN native - Herb Brooks, depicting Brooks coaching for the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey team during the gold-medal game against Finland - was unveiled by his son Dan Brooks that stands forever outside of Minnesota Wild corporate offices, behind Xcel Energy Center, home of the Minnesota Wild.

2008:  Phoenix rookie Peter Mueller scored his second career hat trick, but the Coyotes lost 4-3 in the shootout to the Flames at Calgary.

2009:  Avalanche tied the game three times in the final period for the first time in franchise history and Jordan Leopold scored in the 5th round of the shootout to beat the visiting Red Wings 6-5 in a shootout.

2014:  San Jose Sharks acquired forward Chad Rau from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Curt Gogol.

2015:  Florida Pathers Forward (Blaine, MN native) Nick Bjugstad had 1 goal in the Panthers 3-2 win over Los Angeles Kings to earn the #2 Star of the Night.
