1951:  Former NHL center Henry Boucha born in Warroad, Minnesota.  Boucha played in the NHL 1971-72 through 1976-77 with Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota North Stars, Minnesota Fighting Saints, Kansas City Scouts, and the Colorado Rockies.

1965:  Former NHL center Dan Quinn born in Ottawa, Ontario. Quinn played in the NHL 1983-84 thru 1996-97 with Calgary, Pittsburgh, Vancouver, St. Louis, Philadelphia, the Minnesota North Stars, Ottawa and Los Angeles.

1967:  D. Kelly Campbell, local mining executive was appointed Chairman of Project "Hall-H" Committee - Eveleth Civic Association to research the feasibility of a future US Hockey Hall of Fame Museum to be built in Eveleth, MN.

1974:  Former NHL right winger Maxim Sushinsky born in Leningrad, USSR. Sushinsky played in the NHL 2000-01 with the Minnesota Wild.

1980:  NHL right wing Mattias Weinhandl born in Ljungby, Sweden. Weinhandl has played in the NHL since 2002-03 with the New York Islanders and the Minnesota Wild.

1988:  Philadelphia Flyers named Paul Holmgren as their new head coach, the seventh in the team's 22 year history. Holmgren replaced Mike Keenan, to become the first former Flyers' player to coach the team.

1999:  Jamie Langenbrunner (who scored 12 goals all season) scored twice in the final period to lead the Dallas Stars to a 4-1 win at Colorado, in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals.

2000:  Minnesota Wild wins coin toss, elected to choose third overall in the NHL Entry Draft.

2006:  Minnesota Wild signed undrafted free agent goaltender Niklas Backstrom, who had been playing in Finland.
