1929:  Former NHL left winger Glen Sonmor born in Moose Jaw, Sask. Sonmor played in the NHL 1953-54 through 1954-55 with the New York Rangers, then coached with the Minnesota Gophers, Fighting Saints, and in the NHL 1978-79 through 1982-83 with the Minnesota North Stars.

1936:  Doc Romnes became the first Chicago Black Hawks player to be named the winner of the NHL's Lady Byng Trophy (for "gentlemanly play") for his play during the 1935-36 season.

1939:  In the first dinner held on the Boston Garden ice surface, a Stanley Cup victory dinner was held with 1,400 fans in attendance. NHL President Frank Calder presented the Calder Trophy to Frank Brimsek as the leaque's top rookie. Casey Stengal was a guest.

1944:  Former NHL defenseman Bob Paradise born in St. Paul, Minnesota. Paradise played in the NHL 1971-72 through 1978-79 with the Minnesota North Stars, Atlanta, Pittsburgh and Washington.

1948:  NHL All-Star teams G-Turk Broda D-Bill Quacknbush, Jack Stewart C-Elmer Lach RW-Maurice Richard LW- Ted Lindsay 2nd team G-Frank Brimsek D-Ken Reardon, Neil Colville C-Buddy O'Connor RW-Bud Poile LW-Gaye Stewart

1961:  Former NHL goalie Bob Mason born in International Falls, Minnesota. Mason played in the NHL 1983-84 through 1990-91 with Washington, Chicago, Vancouver and Quebec. He later worked as assistant coach with the Minnesota Wild.

1968:  Milan Marcetta scored a goal and added an assist and Parker MacDonald scored at 3:41 of overtime to lead the North Stars to a 3-2 win over the Blues in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Semi-Finals, in Minnesota.

1971:  Danny Grant had 3 assists in the Minnesota North Stars' 6-3 win at Montreal, in Game 2 of the Semi-Finals. It was the first ever playoff win by a post-67 expansion team over one of the NHL's Original Six, after 17 straight losses since 1968.

1983:  Rookie Phil Housley scored twice to lead the Sabres to a 5-3 win over the Bruins in Game Six of the Adams Division Finals, in Buffalo.

1984:  Steve Payne scored the winner at 6:00 of overtime, and Gordie Roberts scored a goal and added two assists as the Minnesota North Stars won 4-3 over the visiting St. Louis Blues, in Game 7 of the Norris Division Finals.

1988:  Minneapolis, MN native Mark Johnson scored twice in 1st period, and added 2 assists in 3rd period in New Jersey Devils 2-1 Patrick Division Finals lead in 10-4 defeat vs. Washington Capitals.

1991:  Defenseman Curt Giles scored his first playoff goal in seven years, to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 5-1 win over St. Louis, in Game 3 of the Clarence Campbell Conference - Norris Division Finals at Met Center.

1997:  Rookie Jamie Langenbrunner scored the winning goal at 5:31 of the third period as Dallas won 4-3, at Edmonton in Game 4 of the Western Conference Quarter-Finals.

2003:  Andrew Brunette scored the winning goal at 3:25 of OT and added an assist, and Manny Fernandez had a team-record 43 saves as the Wild won its first playoff series, 3-2 victory at Colorado, in Game 7 of the Western Conference Quarter-Finals.

2015:  Minnesota Wild were defeated by the St. Louis Blues on home-ice at Xcel Energy Center: 6-1 for the franchises worst loss in NHL playoff history to tie the playoff series 2-2.

2015:  Winnipeg Jets Defenseman, and Rochester, MN native - Mark Stuart scored 1 goal and played 18:05 to earn the #3 Star of the Night in the Jets' 5-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks to sweep the series.
