1946:  Boston goalie Frank Brimsek recorded his 29th career shutout in a 5-0 Bruins' win over Toronto.

1967:  Minnesota North Stars faced the Flyers for the first time in team history, and won 3-1 at Philadelphia.

1968:  Minnesota goaltender Cesare Maniago recorded his 9th career shutout in the North Stars' 2-0 win at St. Louis.

1976:  NHL center Matt Cullen born in Virginia, MN.  Cullen has played in the NHL since 1997-98 with Anaheim Ducks, Florida Panthers, Carolina Panthers, New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh Penguins and the Minnesota Wild.

1980:  Steve Payne scored a goal and added three assists to lead the North Stars to an 8-3 with over the Calgary Flames in Minnesota.

1982:  Steve Payne scored two goals and an assist and Bobby Smith had a goal and two assists in the Minnesota North Stars' 7-6 win against the Whalers, at Hartford.  The Stars set a new club record in most shots taken in a road game with 59 in the win.

1983:  Minnesota's Dino Ciccarelli and Tom McCarthy each scored twice and added three assists in the North Stars' 8-5 win against the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs.

1998:  Rookie Matt Cullen recorded his first career NHL point, on his birthday, with an assist in a 4-3 loss at Detroit.

2001:  Minnesota Wild beat the visiting Colorado Avalanche 4-2 before 19,014 fans, the largest crowd ever to see an NHL game in the state of Minnesota.

2002:  Minnesota Wild claimed defenseman Andrei Zyuzin off waivers from the New Jersey Devils.

2002:  Jamie Langenbrunner scored 10 seconds into the game, then added a second goal as the Devils outshot the visiting Chicago Blackhawks 41-19 for a 5-1 victory.

2006:  Jason Blake scored a goal and added two assists, and Alexei Yashin had three assists in the Islanders 5-2 win at New Jersey.  New York outshot the Devils 27-16.

2006:  Minnesota's Niklas Backstrom became the first goaltender in the modern era (since 1943) to post his first two career wins before his first NHL start, when he stopped 19 shots to lead the Wild to a 5-2 win over the visiting Vancouver Canucks.

2008:  Edmonton defenseman Tom Gilbert had the first three-point game of his NHL career with three assists in a 5-4 win at Philadelphia.

2010:  Minnesota's Niklas Backstrom made 36 saves for his 20th career shutout and Andrew Brunette scored the only goal of the game as the Wild had their first ever home shutout against San Jose, beating the visiting Sharks 1-0 despite being outshot 36-15.

2013:  Hastings, MN native Derek Stepan scored his second career hat trick to lead the Rangers to a 5-1 win over the visiting Hurricanes.

2017:  On his 41st birthday, Virginia MN native Matt Cullen playing in his 1,500th NHL game with the home-town Minnesota Wild scored 1 goal and gained 1 assist in a 6-3 Wild win vs. visiting Montreal Canadiens.  Cullen became the 35th player in NHL history to play at age 41 years of age, and was the 2nd oldest player active in the NHL 2017-18 season behind Jaromir Jagr (Calgary Flames) at age 45.
