1956:  Minnesota Hockey mogul, Walter Bush, holds tryouts for the U.S. Olympic team at Wakota Arena in South St. Paul in preperation for the Winter Olympic Games.

1969:  Tommy Williams became the first Minnesota-born player to score a goal for the North Stars, reaching the milestone in a 6-3 loss at Pittsburgh.

1969:  Minnesota North Stars' Tom Polanic set a franchise record for most penalty minutes in a period (34 during the second period) and in a game (34) in a 6-3 loss at Pittsburgh.

1969:  The first intercollegiate hockey team at Minnesota State (then Mankato State College) team took the ice for practice.  Don Brose was the Coach after working t he previous four years as coach of the club team.

1970:  Gerry Cheevers made 30 saves to record his 12th career shutout when the Bruins won 5-0 over the Minnesota North Stars, at Boston Garden.  The North Stars' Cesare Maniago had 54 saves in the losing effort.

1972:  Bill Goldsworthy and Jude Drouin each scored a goal and added two in the Minnesota North Stars' 3-3 tie against St. Louis at the Met Center.

1978:  Minnesota's J.P. Parise scored two goals and an assist and the North Stars set a team record with 92 penalty minutes in a 9-1 win over St. Louis, at the Met Center.

1980:  Steve Payne scored a goal and added two assists to lead the North Stars to a 6-3 win over the Penguins in Minnesota.

1983:  Reed Larson scored a goal and added two assists as the Red Wings ended their 10-game road winless streak in St. Louis (0-8-2), with a 3-2 win over the Blues.

1983:  Edmonton signed Tom Gorence as a free agent.

1983:  NHL left wing Matt Moulson born in North York, Ont.  Moulson has played in the NHL since 2007-08 with Los Angeles, New York Islanders, Minnesota, and Buffalo.

1986:  One month into Minnesota's 20th NHL season, Craig Hartsburg became the first & only defenseman in North Stars history to score a hat trick (the first of his NHL career).  Al Secord scored his 4th career hat trick, and Steve Larmer picked up four assists as the Blackhawks won 6-5, at Minnesota.  Dino Ciccarelli had two goals and two assists for the North Stars.

1988:  Minnesota North Stars traded goaltender Don Beaupre to Washington in exchange for the rights to Claudio Scremin.

1991:  Calgary's Al MacInnis scored twice and picked up two assists as the Flames won 7-6 in overtime, at Winnipeg.  Ed Olczyk had two goals and three assists, and Phil Housley added two goals and two assists for the Jets.

1991:  NHL center Tyler Pitlick born in Minneapolis, MN.  Pitlick has played in the NHL since 2013-14 with Edmonton.

1993:  Investors R. David Spreng and Paul Jaas make a deposit to bring a new Roller Hockey International (RHI) hockey team to Minnesota later named the Minnesota Arctic Blast.

1996:  Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks Mens Hockey Team played in the schools first ever Division I (D1) hockey game in school history vs. the visiting Ferris State University.  Don Amiot and Don Brose dropped the ceremonial first puck at the Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato.

2003:  Jamie McLennan recorded his 11th career shutout, and Jordan Leopold scored his first two goals of the season in the first period as the Flames outshot the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets 34-15 for a 3-0 victory.

2003:  Minnesota Wild set a franchise record with a power play goal in their ninth straight game, a 2-1 win over the visiting Washington Capitals.

2008:  New Jersey's Zach Parise scored twice to extend his goal-scoring streak to six straight games (tying a team record) in a 6-1 win over the visiting Atlanta Thrashers.

2008:  Minnesota goalie Niklas Backstrom improved his lifetime record against Phoenix to 7-0-0 when the Wild beat the Coyotes 3-2 in Phoenix.

2011:  Devin Setoguchi scored a power play goal at 1:33 of overtime after picking up a regulation assist to give the Wild a 2-1 victory in Detroit.

2014:  Minnesota Wild forward, Mikael Granlund played his 100th NHL game of his career scored a goal in the Wilds' 4-1 win.  

2014:  Thomas Vanek notched his first goal in a Wild sweater (in his 9th game) to earn the #1 Star of the Night.  For Vanek, the 9th goal-less game of his career to start the season was the second longest such streak of his career, the most since it took him 14 games to score his 1st NHL goal as a rookie with the Buffalo Sabres in 2005.  The power-play goal by Vanek ended the Wild's nine-game power-play goal drought, which set a new Wild record.
