1954: Former NHL right winger Kris Manery born in Leamington, Ont. Manery played in the NHL 1977-78 through 1980-81 with Vancouver, Winnipeg, Cleveland and the Minnesota North Stars.
1967: The expansion Minnesota North Stars improved to 5-1-0 in their first NHL preseason, after a 3-0 win over the L.A. Kings, in a game played at Oshawa, Ontario. It was also the first shutout in franchise history.
1979: The eventual Miracle on Ice 1980 Gold medal winning U.S. Olympic team opened tryouts held at the Met Center in Bloomington, MN.
1982: Minnesota North Stars signed goaltender Markus Mattsson as a free agent.
1984: Former NHL defenseman Mike Lundin born in Burnsville, MN. Lundin played in the NHL 2007-08 through 2012-2013 with Tampa Bay Lightning, Minnesota Wild and Ottawa Senators.
1988: NHL defenseman Steven Kampfer born in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Kampfer has played in the NHL since 2010-11 with Boston Bruins, Minnesota Wild and Florida Panthers.
1993: Winnipeg Jets traded defenseman Phil Housley to St. Louis, in exchange for Nelson Emerson and Stephane Quintal.
1998: Alana Blahoski, Neal Broten and Karen Bye named the Grass Roots Hockey Advisors for the Minnesota Wild.
