1943:  Hall of Famer Glen Sather born in High River, Alta.  Sather played in the NHL 1966-67 through 1975-76 with Boston, Pittsburgh, the NY Rangers, St. Louis, Montreal and Minnesota. Sather later served as coach and GM with the Oilers and Rangers.

1956:  Former NHL defenseman Don Jackson born in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Jackson played in the NHL 1977-78 through 1986-87 with the Minnesota North Stars, Edmonton and the New York Rangers. He later coached with Quebec, Pittsburgh, Chicago and Ottawa.

1956:  Former NHL right winger Mario Tremblay born in Alma, Que.  Tremblay played in the NHL 1974-75 through 1985-86 with Montreal, and later worked as coach with Montreal, the Minnesota Wild, and New Jersey.

1957:  Former NHL left winger Doug Smail born in Moose Jaw, Sask.  Smail played in the NHL 1980-81 through 1992-93 with Winnipeg, the Minnesota North Stars, Quebec and Ottawa.

1973:  Former NHL player Jason Blake born in Moorhead, MN.  Blake played in the NHL through 1998-99 with Los Angeles, the New York Islanders, Toronto, and Anaheim.

1983:  Los Angeles Kings signed defenseman Russ Anderson as a free agent.

1999:  Minnesota Wild named Doug Risebrough as the first General Manager in franchise history.  The move came one year before the team's first NHL game.

1999:  Pittsburgh Penguins signed Tom Chorske as a free agent.

2004:  The World Cup of Hockey International Ice Hockey Tournament was held in 7 host cities - eight years after the inaugural 1996 World Cup of Hockey.  Team USA faced off vs. visiting Russia on this date at the host United States venue - Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN.  To commemorate the occasion, Team USA donned 1932 "throwback" hockey jerseys in honor of the Silver Medal winning 1932 USA Olympic Hockey team.  USA lost the game 3-1 in front of an attendance of 18,064.
