1976:  St. Paul Mayor George Latimer announced that the Cleveland Crusaders of the WHA would move to St. Paul, MN for the 1976-1977 season and were dubbed as the "New Fighting Saints" wearing red and gold uniforms.  (The franchise would later fold in January of 1977 mid-season following 42 games with a record of 19-18-5).

1979:  St. Louis Blues traded Tom Roulston and Risto Siltanen to Edmonton in exchange for Joe Micheletti.

1980:  Hartford purchased Warren Miller from New York Rangers.

1980:  Minnesota North Stars signed Murray Brumwell as a free agent.

1987:  Former NHL defenseman Michael Sauer born in St. Cloud, MN, (raised in Sartell, MN).  Sauer played in the NHL 2008-09 through 2011-12 with New York Rangers before suffering a concussion as a result of a hit by Dion Phaneuf December 5, 2011 which ended his career on the ice.

1990:  Minnesota North Stars re-acquired Bobby Smith from the Montreal Canadiens, in exchange for a future draft choice.

1997:  Phildelphia Flyers named Paul Holmgren as their new Director of Player Personnel.

2008:  Ted Lindsay, Phil Housley, Brian Burke and Bob Naegele were named as recipients of the Lester Patrick Trophy (awarded for service to hockey in the United States).

2011:  San Jose Sharks acquired acquired forward James Sheppard from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a third round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
