1932:  Former NHL forward Ken Yackel born in St. Paul, MN.  Yackel played in the NHL 1958-59 with Boston.

1935:  Doc Romnes scored the only hat trick of his NHL career in the Black Hawks' 5-1 win against the New York Americans, in Chicago.

1968:  Former NHL center Shjon Podein born in Rochester, MN.  Podein played in the NHL 1992-93 through 2002-03 with Edmonton, the Philadelphia Flyers, the Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis.

1969:  Jean-Paul Parise and Claude Larose each scored twice to lead the North Stars to a 5-2 win against the Oakland Seals, at the Met Center.

1970:  The 26th annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the Metropolitan Sports Center from March 5-7th.

1977:  Bill Fairbairn scored a goal and added two assists to lead the North Stars to a 6-3 win against the Colorado Rockies at the Met Center.

1978:  Ron Zanussi scored a goal and added two assists as the North Stars lost 4-3 to the Red Wings at Detroit.

1980:  Bobby Smith had three assists to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 3-3 tie against the Nordiques in Quebec City.

1981:  NHL defenseman Paul Martin born in Minneapolis, MN. Martin has played in the NHL since 2003-04 with New Jersey and Pittsburgh.

1983:  North Stars tied a team record with their fifth straight road victory, a 4-1 win at Detroit.  Rookie Brian Bellows led the scoring with three assists.

1984:  Tom McCarthy scored his first NHL hat trick and Neal Broten added four assists to lead the North Stars to a 5-1 win against the Detroit Red Wings, in Minnesota.

1985:  New Jersey signed Tom Gorence as a free agent.

1986:  Brian Bellows scored a goal and added two assists to lead the North Stars to a 5-3 win over the Maple Leafs in Minnesota.

1991:  Calgary traded Marc Bureau to the North Stars in exchange for North Stars’ 3rd round pick, Sandy McCarthy, in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.

1992:  Minnesota's Todd Elik had two goals and two assists to lead the North Stars to a 4-2 win against the Red Wings, at Detroit.

1993:  North Stars traded Todd Elik to Edmonton for Brent Gilchrist.

1997:  The 53rd annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the St. Paul Civic Center/Mariucci Arena from March 5-8th.

2002:  Sean Hill scored the winning goal at 1:36 of overtime and added an assist in the Hurricanes 2-1 win over the Blackhawks at Chicago.

2002:  The Minnesota Wild on this date dedicated their press box in Al Shaver's honor.

2003:  The 59th annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the Xcel Energy Center and Mariucci Arena from March 5th-8th.

2004:  Minnesota Wild received two draft picks from Nashville Predators in exchange for Sergei Zholtok and Brad Bombadir.

2004:  Washington Capitals claimed veteran forward Craig Johnson off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

2006:  Minnesota coach Jacques Lemaire earned his 400th career NHL victory as the Wild won 5-3 over the visiting Colorado Avalanche.

2006:  Minnesota Wild claimed Mattias Weinhandl off waivers from the New York Islanders.

2006:  Brian Rolston set a Minnesota Wild team record with his 11th power play goal of the year in a 5-3 win over the visiting Colorado Avalanche. He broke the mark of 10 PPG scored by Andrew Brunette in 2001-02.

2006:  Minnesota goaltender Manny Fernandez set a team record with his 24th victory of the season, a 5-3 win over the visiting Colorado Avalanche; he broke the mark of 23 wins set by Dwayne Roloson in 2002-03.

2007: Matt Cullen scored the lone goal in the shootout as the Rangers outshot the visiting Islanders 57-30 and won 2-1.

2008:  The 64th annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the Xcel Energy Center and Mariucci Arena from March 5th-8th.

2008:  Phoenix's Peter Mueller became the first rookie to score 20 goals during the 2007-08 season, in the Coyotes' 2-1 win at Dallas.

2009:  Wild trailed the Sharks 3-0 late in the 2nd period, but rallied to win 4-3 in overtime in San Jose. Mikko Koivu scored the game winner at 4:46 of overtime. It was just the second time in franchise history that the Wild won after trailing by 3 on the road.

2010:  Zach Parise became the first player in New Jersey Devils franchise history to score 30 or more goals for four straight seasons when he scored twice in a 5-3 loss at Calgary.

2014:  The 70th annual MSHSL State Boys High School Hockey Tournament is held at the Xcel Energy Center and Mariucci Arena from March 5th-8th.

2014:  Buffalo traded Matt Moulson and Cody McCormick to Minnesota for Torrey Mitchell, Winnipeg's 2nd-round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft (previously acquired) and Minnesota's 2nd-round pick in 2016.
